US Treasury wants crypto transfers above $10,000 reported to IRS

The Biden administration’s proposal to catch tax dodgers is extending to the cryptocurrency world, which saw the US Internal Revenue Service add a line about crypto to its individual tax return form in 2020. The U.S. Treasury said the Biden administration’s proposal to strengthen tax compliance includes a requirement for transfers of at least $10,000 of cryptocurrency to be reported to the Internal Revenue Service. “As with cash transactions, businesses that receive cryptoassets with a fair-market value of more than $10,000 would also be reported on,” the Treasury Department said in a report on tax-enforcement proposals released Thursday. The Treasury said that comprehensive reporting is necessary “to minimize the incentives and opportunity to shift income out of the new information reporting regime.” It noted that cryptocurrency is a small share of current business transactions. DUBAI: A Dubai free zone focused on airport business is moving into the booming crypto sector. Companies trading with crypto assets can now obtain a business license at the Dubai Airport Free Zone Authority (DAFZA) in a new agreement that supports the mainstream use of blockchain technology. The free zone agreed with the Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA) to allow the regulation, offering, issuance, listing and trading of crypto assets within DAFZA. Moves to legalize full foreign ownership in some sectors of the UAE economy means that some free zones are also  looking to adapt their business models. “DAFZA is continuously working to a...

SafeMoon was created in March and is encoded to benefit hodlers, or those who invest in a coin through bad times and good. Portnoy via Twitter described SafeCoin as his “sh-tcoin accouncement” and warned followers to “invest at their own risk,” adding that he has “no idea how this works.” “The events of the last couple days and weeks h...
