Cryptocurrency XRP Plunges 25% After SEC Files Lawsuit Against Ripple

  Cryptocurrency XRP sank nearly 25% to around 35 cents Wednesday morning. The SEC is suing Ripple and two of its executives over the alleged sale of unregistered securities. Ripple denied XRP is a security and questioned the lawsuit's timing. The price of  XRP  plunged again Wednesday after the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filed a lawsuit alleging that Ripple, a blockchain company with ties to the cryptocurrency, conducted a $1.3 billion unregistered securities offering. XRP sank nearly 25% to around 35 cents Wednesday morning, according to data from cryptocurrency market site CoinDesk.  The virtual currency fell as much as 17% on Tuesday after Ripple said it anticipated and would fight the legal action. Italian police accuse cryptocurrency exchange boss of huge fraud

  ROME (Reuters) - Italian police said on Monday a man who ran a cryptocurrency exchange that was declared bankrupt last year is suspected of being responsible for a series of hacks that caused losses of 120 million euros ( $146 million ). More than 230,000 people were defrauded by the cyber-theft of a cryptocurrency called Nano which was held by the company BitGrail, the postal police said in a statement. “It is the biggest cyber-financial attack in Italy and one of the biggest in the world,” the police said. “For the first time in Italy and in Europe, we have documented fraudulent and rapacious conduct to the detriment of investors carried out entirely on IT platforms and via the use of virtual currencies .” Police said the suspect was a 34-year-old from Florence, and gave his initials as F.F. Binance exchange has achieved significant things in 2020 and it is now ending the year with a cryptocurrency-backed Visa payment card.  This has made it to be among a few firms that are offering digital currency cards. Two Rubygems Infected With Crypto-Stealing Feature Malware Spotted by Researchers

  New infected Rubygems packages have been spotted in its open-source software repository and which contained malicious code mainly used to steal cryptocurrencies from users via supply chain attack. Two Cryptocurrency-Stealers Rubygems Detected by Researchers at Sonatype According to Ax Sharma, a security researcher at Sonatype, the two gems  detected  — pretty_color and ruby-bitcoin — had malware that deployed the attack on Windows machines and replaced any bitcoin ( BTC ), ethereum ( ETH ), or monero ( XMR ) wallet addresses found on the victim’s clipboard by the attackers’ ones. Rubygems is a package manager for the Ruby programming language that allows developers to integrate code developed by other people. Anyone can upload a “gem” to the repository, open in some way the doors for threat actors to upload their malicious packages.
